Now this is a tricky one. In the summer time long ago people like teachers who lived along the coast would fish off the cliffs or out in little boats and catch plenty of mackerel, I even did it as a kid off the cliffs in Clare and sold them to farmers delivering milk to the creamery, so that is why Mackerel was plentiful in the summer but now less of that happens and mackerel comes mainly from fishing trawlers about 20 miles out at sea.
